What the hell happened in Tulum

It all started so well. After drinking many beers on the Island of Holbox we arrive in Tulum exhausted. We make an early tea and head to bed. In the morning we are fresh and ready to sightsee.

Tulums ruins are beautifully situated next to the blue sea and white sand below. Its 30 degrees and rising so we eagerly run down to the beach to have a cool dip in the water but are disappointed to find the beach covered in layers of seaweed.

Unable to find shade that doesn’t cost a fortune or an area to swim in that isn’t clogged with seaweed we head back to the hostel.

When we get back we are informed of a joint birthday party happening the next night for a Argentinian lady who works there and a Columbian guy who has been staying there a while. Despite them saying the party is tomorrow it seems it had already started.

As the cocktails flowed and night turned into day and then with little or no sleep another party began, we soon found that our 4 nights at the hostel were up. Reluctant to stay any longer for fear of permanent liver damage we head to the closest A/C hotel we could find and lay there for two days to recover.

It’s fair to say that we leave Tulum a shadow of our former selves and in much need of a detox.
