Today we woke up early and caught the sunrise over the lake. The air was still, allowing perfect reflections in the water.
We were both sad to be leaving but I knew my hips would thank me for sleeping in a bed tonight. Rather than spend money on an expensive ferry ride to catch the bus we decided to make the most of the day and walk to the administration centre.
This turned out to be an excellent idea as the path was enjoyably flat, passing through yet another, diverse landscape of grass fields. We also spotted a surprising large amount of birds, many of which we hadn’t seen anywhere else in the park.
We stopped half way at Las Carrettsas camp and to get rid of the last of our food we had a bazar breakfast of chicken curry followed by porridge and dried kiwi. It was here where we met an English couple just starting their trek. The lady was saying she didn’t know how she was going to manage.
This made me reflect on my own thoughts at the beginning of the trip and how unfit I felt on our first day. I was proud of how well we had both did, hopefully this was to be the beginning of kick starting our fitness as we had previously been settling into a lazy backpackers lifestyle.
Reaching the administration building felt great. Our bodies were acing but this felt surprisingly good. All the pain had been worth it. We basked in our achievement while lying in the sun waiting for the bus to take us back to Puerto Natales. For both of us the past week was the highlight of our trip so far. A truly unforgettable experience.
