Creeping down the mountain at glacial pace, that is two meters a day, crashing and melting spectacularly into a lake of turquoise water is the awe inspiring Glacier Perito Merano.
Set within the backdrop of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, Argentina, the glaciers monstrous force can be witnessed close up.
Thunderous cracks and booms can be heard as the glacier rumbles, cracking and melting slowly into Lago Argentino. Large chunks of the 60 meter high (above water), 5km wide glacier literally fall off before your eyes.
There is a sign near the glacier that’s states, ‘do not pass’ 33 people died due to falling ice. Obviously we stay within the ‘safe’ area, well you don’t have much choice now as there are several purpose built walkways to keep you contained.
The sun is shining and its 20 degrees yet before our eyes stands a wall of ice as if it was The Wall directly from Games of Thrones.
Except this is no fantasy story this is the natural world at its finest.
