We have been back in the North East for a week now. Feeling relaxed and stress free after quitting our jobs and leaving Manchester we decided to make the most of the uncharacteristically good April weather by visiting the Northumbrian coastal castle of Bamburgh.
It was nice to reminisce over our memories of school trips to Lindisfarne and Sea Houses. As was the case with most children of the North East we were wrapped up in several layers of clothes to fight off the icy North Sea wind, shipped on a boat to be slightly impressed by the Puffins and Seals which habitat the Farne islands.
But today the weather was good and it’s easy to see why Northumberland is the UK’s best kept secret, with more castles than any other county, sparsely populated with gorgeous beaches and Northumberland national park to boot there’s plenty to do here.
Following our trip to Bamburgh we spent some time on the more familiar Blyth beach.
Recently renovated this has now become a hub for people coming to visit the town. We ate the obligatory fish and chips and took in the familiar sights of the sea, sand dunes and beach huts.
No trip to the north east would be complete without a visit to Newcastle. Our home city has always been the source of much pride as we have travelled and worked in various places. It’s a wonderful city full of history and tradition. Some would say it also has its own language as not many people outside of area can understand a Geordie, especially after a few pints!
With a view of the Tyne Bridge above us we enjoyed a traditional drink of Brown Ale.
It is days like these where you really see the beauty of the area and we can really appreciate the fact that there is no better place in the world than our home town.
